Oklahoma Casing Below-Grade Connection

Top of casing to be properly sealed w/ pitless adapter cap, sanitary well seal, or cap if
temporarily abandoned"

Ohio Well Pits or Vaults Well Pits Or Vaults - General

If altering a well where pit will not house additional well system equipment, casing must extend at least 12 inches above top of pit or natural ground level, whichever is greater. Remove all well system components, collapse at least one wall, break up floor, remove drains. Please 6 inch deep bentonite layer around base of casing, then fill remaining area of pit with clay-based soil.

Ohio Well Head Completion Well Head Completion - General

Casing to be cut so that surface will fit flush w/ well cap & be water-tight. Casing to extend at least 3 ft. above 100-yr flood elevation when well is located in flood plain. Casing to terminate min of 12 in. above finished grade.

Ohio Water Suction Lines Water Suction Lines - General

To be of approved materials under rule 3701-28-08 of administrative code.

Ohio Vents Vents - General

Not required for flowing wells when flow rate is > pumping rate of permanent pump. To be on all well caps & seals except for deep well single pipe packer jet installations. To be self-draining, screened, & point downward. To terminate not < 12 in. above ground surface, basement floor, offset, pump room, or 3 ft. above 100 yr flood elevation. If casing I.D. ≤ 6 inches, total vent surface area shall be at least 3/4 inch diameter. For casing I.D >6 inch, total vent surface area to be at least 1 inch diameter.

Ohio Testing Testing - General

Determine stable yield. Test for nitrates, E.coli (mcl = 0/100 mL of water) and coliform CFU count (mcl ≤4 CFU/100 mL of water). All water samples shall be collected and processed in accordance with rule 3701-28-04 of the Administrative Code.

Ohio Screens Screens - General

Well screens that meet the specifications described in paragraph (K) of rule 3701-28- 09 of the Administrative Code shall be installed in wells completed in unconsolidated or incompetent formations, unless geologic formation conditions prevent their use. Screens shall be attached either directly to the bottom of the 7 casing, or if installed using telescoping methods to a K-packer that meets the specification described in paragraph (M) of rule 3701-28- 09 of the Administrative Code. Shale traps shall not be used in place of a K-packer. Well screens shall not be installed less than ten feet from the natural ground surface nor shall they be driven.

Ohio Pumps Pumps - General

Installed to follow depth and configuration recommended by manufacturer. No unprotected openings into pump or casing. Fuel operated motor must meet isolation distances or installed within watertight secondary containment. Plastic drop pipes and check valves shall not have holes installed for drainage. Only potable water used for priming pumps.

Ohio Pumps Lubricants

To meet ANSI/NSF 60 or 61 or be of food grade quality and not discharged to surface water. Must not contain guar gum or other biodegradable organic materials.

Ohio Pumps Hand Pump

Casing wall weep hole not permitted. If casing functions as hand pump cylinder wall, plunger to be at least 25 ft. below ground surface. To be attached to steel well casing or standpipe by sealed flange with rubber gasket or approved method. Flange to beat least 12 in. above concrete slab or ground surface. To provide for venting & have a closed downward directed spout & a sealed pump rod packing assembly.

Ohio Pump Pits Pump Pits - General

If well located in pit or vault and is being altered to include additional equipment, a new wall must be constructed to separate the well from the other equipment. Wall shall be of sufficient strength and watertight, O.D. casing to be ≥ 12 inches from outside edge of new wall to allow for 12 inches of backfill around casing. If pit is constructed or altered to include additional private water components, like pump and pressure tank, must either add a drainage outlet w/backflow protection to existing pit or vault to eliminate possibility of standing water, or install backflow prevention device where water service line enters the vault of pit.

Ohio Pressure Tanks Pressure Tanks - General

Not to be buried unless approved. To be installed in basement, basement offset, pump room, crawl space, or buried vault. For new construction, not to be located in crawl space unless space is reasonably accessible by walking average size adult, and if not accessible by average size adult must be w/in 3 ft of crawlspace entry. To have Pressure Relief Valve (except for jet pump installations) on tank or installed prior to system shut-off. Must meet NSF 61.

Ohio Plumbness & Alignment Plumbness & Alignment - General

Casing to be sufficiently straight & vertical.

Ohio Pitless Adapters Pitless Adapters - General

All wells must have pitless adapter or unit, meet current Water Systems Council standard and be approved by Director. Must prevent entrance of surface water, dirt, animals, insects, or other foreign matter. Must extend at least 12 inches above ground surface and connect to casing by approved methods. Inside diameter of pitless must not be smaller than I.D. of casing, and if connected to casing must be installed below the local frost line. Steel casing pipe extensions pitless units or adapters shall not be welded after attached to thermoplastic casing. Threaded connections only used on pitless after attached to casing. Where installed by clamping thermoplastic casing, backing plate, wide steel strap or casting shall be installed to protect casing integrity.

Ohio Grout Bentonite

Must achieve min. solids content of 20% bentonite by weight of water. Synthetic organic polymers that meet ANSI/NSF standard 60 may be added to slurries, shall be placed by pressure grouting by approved methods. Slurry shall not be used if TDS of water exceeds 1500 mg/L unless determined dissolved iron levels are <15 mg/L, chloride <500 mg/L, and calcium < 500 mg/L. Coarse grade or pelletized bentonite not to be used when TDS exceeds 1500 mg/L and total volume of sealing materials shall not be less than 80% of total volume required to fill space. To meet NSF 60 & may include high solids bentonite using powdered bentonite for drilling fluids, granular bentonite for dry pouring or driving, coarse grade for mixing as slurry, coarse grade or pelletized for dry pouring. If dry pouring, must use pouring and screening methods described in paragraph H of rule 3701-28-09 of the Administrative Code, annular space must be ≥ 2 inches per side, coarse grade bentonite used if ≤ 200 ft depth, granular & pelletized bentonite not to be dry poured >25 ft depth into dry annular space, or through drilling fluids. Water used for mixing slurries shall be treated to remove excess minerals that might interfere with bentonite hydration.

Ohio Electrical Connection Electrical Connection - General

Electrical conduit connections on caps or seals to be threaded & sealed at bottom, to be installed in accordance w/manufacturer's specifications.

Ohio Disinfection Disinfection - General

All new, repaired or altered wells must be disinfected w/approved materials. If total casing length 15-25 ft, requires continuous disinfection in accordance w/rule 3701-28-15 or may be installed where isolation distances are doubled, and testing can meet bacterial standards in paragraph (J) of rule 3701-28-04 for two samples collected during opposite seasons within a one year period. Wells w/<15 ft casing require continuous disinfection and cyst reduction in accordance with rule 3701-28-15 of the Administrative Code, no variances will be permitted. All wells must be disinfected following maintenance and repair, Approved procedure outlined in section (F) 3701-28-11 rule of Administrative code. All water samples shall be collected and processed in accordance with rule 3701-28-04 of the Administrative Code.

Ohio Development Development - General

Mechanical development shall be performed. Develop until turbidity in well is minimized. Chemical development may be used in conjunction w/mechanical and can be performed by a registered contractor, except chlorination. To meet ANSI/NSF 61 & acids to be neutralized. Dispersing agents to be accompanied w/ chlorine & be immediately flushed from well & aquifer.

Ohio Cross Connection Cross Connection - General

Required of private water system has a physical cross-connection to another private water system. All backflow prevention devices installed on a service line shall comply with ASSE 1013, 1015 or 1024.

Ohio Construction Construction - General

Special construction requirements for flowing wells and wells constructed in cavernous, highly fractures formations, saline water with concentration exceeding 3,000 mg/L, or produce methane concentration exceeding 10 mg/L, see (L-N) 3701-28-10.

Ohio Casing Thermoplastic

Casing joints & couplings must be watertight throughout and meet ASTM F480 & ANSI/NSF 14. Spline lock joints permitted and do not need to meet ASTM F480. To be SDR 21 or greater, but to be SDR 17 if diameter is >8 inches. Must be marked with pipe size, SDR, type of plastic, words "well casing", IC, spec#, manuf name or trademark, certification mark for ANSI/NSF 14. Couplings to be marked with nominal casing pipe coupling size, type of plastic, designation of compliance w/ASTM F480 and ANSI/NSF 14, and manuf name or trademark. Well casing joints that are solvent welded shall meet ASTM F480 and ANSI/NSF 14.

Ohio Casing Steel

Must have min wall thickness of 0.188 in. if nominal pipe size is 5-10 inches, min wall thickness of 0.375 inches if nominal pipe size is 12-20 inches. Must be legibly marked on each length with manufacturer, kind of pipe, weight, diameter, spec#, lot#. If pipe is ≤8 inches diameter, shall have minimum of 2 weld passes, if diameter is > 8 inches, shall have minimum of 3 weld passes. To be in compliance w/ ASTM A53, A106, A589, A500, or API 5L or 5C. To be standard weight specified in ASTM A53, A106, A589, or API 5L if pipe size is 21 inches or greater. Must be watertight and have threaded & coupled or welded joints. Welded joints may include butt-welds using welding collar or guide, band rings, flared joints, & welding collars.

Ohio Caps Caps - General

All must meet current Water Systems Council pitless adapter standard, and fit securely, watertight, and be vented. Electrical connections on caps or seals to be threaded and sealed to prevent entrance of insects and water. Approved cap to be used at all times for wells where pitless or distribution lines not yet installed. No holes to be installed in well cap, except for venting in floodplain or methane gas control.

Ohio Abandonment Coarse Grade Or Pelletized Bentonite

Pour at continuous rate no faster than 3 min/50 lbs. Pour over wire mesh screen intermittently. Prevent bridging. Sealing material to be left a min of 12 hours to determine if settling has occurred. Hydrate periodically if dry well. Total volume of sealing materials to be ≥ 80% total volume of space to be filled. To be used if depth of aquifer is unknown.

Ohio Abandonment Abandonment - General

Sealing materials approved for use in rule 3701-28-09 of the Administrative Code. Seal wells w/ cement grout, bentonite grout, or clean clay, sand, or gravel within 30 days. If water flows from around outside of casing or gravel pack connects two or more hydraulic zones, well to be overdrilled. Casing to be removed, ripped, or perforated, and remaining casing to be cut off to min of 2 ft. below grade or at cement floor if finished in cement floor. Placement by pressure methods from bottomry upward in continuous operation. May be gravity poured if no water present in hole. If borehole conditions and geologic formations are known, clean sand, gravel or fire clay may be placed from bottom of well to top of aquifer, or to 25 ft below ground surface, whichever encountered first. Special procedures for flowing wells and non-flowing wells in multiple aquifers, dug wells, well constructed using a bucket and auger, wells drilled in fractured or cavernous formations, see 13701-18-17 (J) to (O). Well pits shall be removed by collapsing at least one wall, breaking up the floor, and removing all drains.

New York Vents Vents - General

Shall be provided on all well caps and seals, except for those used on double pipe-packer jet installations. A vent shall be screened, downward facing, and terminate at least 12 inches above grade or six inches above the floor of a well house. Vent screening shall be 20 to 30 mesh/inch screen, shall not reduce the vent open area by more than 50 % and shall be stainless steel or other non-corrodible material.

New York Seals Seals - General

Sanitary seal to be where pump lines & electric cables pass through side or out top of casing.

New York Screens Screens - General

Shall be minimal 2 inch diameter and installed in wells in unconsolidated or unconsolidated-consolidated material to minimize entrance of fine materials into well.

New York Pumps Pumps - General

A hand pump shall have a closed, downward facing, screened spout and a sealed pump rod packing assembly. A weep hole shall be installed in a hand pump discharge riser pipe below the frost line to protect the riser pipe and pump head from freezing. Lubricants complying with USDA, USFDA, or NSF food contact grade formulations shall be used as submersible pump motor and vertical turbine shaft lubricants.

New York Plumbness & Alignment Plumbness & Alignment - General

Shall be sufficiently straight and vertical to allow normal installation and operation of pump.

New York Pitless Adapters Pitless Adapters - General

To be connected by threaded or welded joints, below ground connection shall not be submerged in water during installation and shall comply with WSC PAS-97 standard.

New York Disinfection Disinfection - General

Mix 2 quarts of bleach w/ 10 gal. of water & pour into well while it is pumped. Next mix 2 quarts of bleach in 10 gal. of water & pour into well. Pump into chlorine odor disappears from all taps. Pump well to waste until chlorine odor disappears. Recirculate water for at least 1 hr, then close tap & stop pump. Soln to set for at least 8 hrs, preferably 12-24 hrs. Wells to be disinfected w/ chlorine bleach after construction & pumping.

New York Development Development - General

Produce max yield while clearing well of sand, silt, & turbidity through air lift, bailing, surging, jetting, hydrofracturing and/or chemical treatment until free sand and rock cuttings removed.

New York Cross Connection Cross Connection - General

To be no connections between drinking water & plumbing fixture, tank, sewer, soil, waste, or pipeline system. Discharges to waste pipe shall not be directly connected to sewer or other sources of contamination, and shall be equipped with an air gap or backflow prevention device.

New York Casing Casing - General

Must have minimum of 1 ft of casing above, and 19 ft below finished grade. Total minimum required casing length of 20 ft. If located in well house, floor of well house must be 6 inches above finished grade, and casing must finish 6 inches above well house floor. Casing must of sufficient strength. Steel pipe to meet ASTM A53, A106, A500, or A589, or API 5L. Thermoplastic or PVC may be used if not driven and if sealed with grout and must meet NSF or UL drinking water standards. Driven casing to be fitted with drive shoe. Casing extensions shall be of same material as existing casing. 2 inches minimum diameter for wells in sand or gravel formation, 6 inch minimum for bedrock wells. New York Caps Caps - General

Well caps and seals shall be tightly secured to the well casing, watertight, vermin- proof, and provide venting as noted in this section. Split caps shall not be used.

New York Abandonment Abandonment - General

Contact municipal authorities first to determine local regulations. Remove equipment, materials, debris, and any obstructions. Disinfect well using soln of calcium hypochlorite containing approx. 65-75% available chlorine. Common household bleach may be too weak. Calcium hypochlorite products containing fungicides, algicides, or other disinfectants should be avoided. Casing w/open annual space should be grouted or removed. Where grouted, cut casing off at least 24 inched below grade. If located in building, upon completion of grouting, casing should be filled to floor level with no <12 inches cement. Casing should be cut off not >3 inches from floor. If terminate in well pit, casing should be cut of not <12 inches below the grade established when the pit is filled. Top of casing should be sealed. Steel casings sealed with welded steel plate: PVC casings sealed w/permanently affixed PVC cap. Screened portion should be filled with clean sand or gravel, and should be no less permeable than formation around well screen, and should extend no >3ft above top of screen. Fill entire well and annular space w/grout. Nevada Well Head Completion Well Head Completion - General

Casing to terminate 1 ft. above ground level.

Nevada Seals Seals - General

Minimum 2 inch thickness, seal annular space with neat cement, cement grout, concrete grout or bentonite chips from minimum 50 ft sealing depth to 20 ft below surface, and neat cement, cement grout or concrete grout from 20 ft below surface to surface. Minimum sealing depth may differ for water quality and contamination issues, or artesian conditions according to subsection 1 of NAC 534.370, NAC 534.375, subsection 1 of NAC 534.378 or or paragraph (b) of subsection 1 of NAC 534.390. If the well is regulated by the Bureau of Safe Drinking Water of the Division of Environmental Protection of the State Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the annular space must be sealed in accordance with NAC 445A.66905. If pitless adapter used, seal must begin no more than 5 ft below surface and must extend at least 50 ft below bottom of pitless adapter. Increase depth of seal to 100 ft if located within 1/4 mile of a river, lake, perennial stream unlined reservoir or unlined canal. No perforations are allowed in production casing to depth of 100 ft. Seal must be placed or directly supervised by licensed well driller.

Nevada Plumbness & Alignment Plumbness & Alignment - General

Casing must be centered as nearly as practicable in well bore.

Nevada Permitting Permitting - General

Except as otherwise provided in NAC 534.315 subsection 8, permits to appropriate groundwater are not required for the drilling of wells for domestic use.

Nevada Packers Packers - General

To prevent movement of contaminants.

Nevada Location Location - General

If well is drilled w/in 0.25 mi. of river, lake, stream, or canal, perforations in casing not allowed to 100 ft. depth. Must be sealed to depth of 100 ft. Check with county health department or governing body for separation distances.

Nevada Licensing Licensing - General

Must be a licensed well driller. Must pass a written and oral examination.

To be neat cement, cement, concrete, or bentonite grout.

Nevada Casing Casing - PVC

Must comply w/current ASTM F480. If PVC, nominal diameters of <6 inches must be SCH40 or heavier, if greater than 6 inch diameter must be ASTM21 or heavier. Joint connections must be flush-threaded, threaded and coupled, or joined w/non-metallic couplings sealed with elastomeric sealing gaskets with flexible thermoplastic splines. Set protective steel casing that extends at least 5 ft. into sanitary seal & at least 18 inches above finished grade.
