Missouri Liners Liners - General

May be steel or thermoplastic. Packers to be secured on plastic liners w/ screws. Plastic liners to meet ASTM standards & be composed of PVC or ABS materials. Steel liners to be new & have I.D. of at least 4 in. & min wall thickness of 0.188 in. To have SDR 26, 21, 17, or 13.5 & SCH ratings of SCH 40 or 80. Montana Casing Casing - General

Casing installed in well w/ diameter > 10 in. may have wall thickness of 0.250 in. if it meets ASTM A-120. Casings w/ diameters > 20 in. to have wall thickness of at least 0.375 in. Each string to extend or telescope at least 4 ft. into adjacent larger diameter inner casing. Inner casing to be of steel in new or like new condition. Inner casing to extend or telescope at least 4 ft. into lower end of well casing. May have in-place perforations w/ star, mills knife, mill slotted, sawed, or drilled. May perforate inner casing by torch-cutting, millslotting, or punching. No openings to be in casing except for Pitless Adapters, screened vents, access ports, & grout nipples. Perforations above lowest expected static water level not permitted. To be equipped w/ centering guides of steel at least 0.25 in. in thickness. To meet ASTM A-120 specifications for line pipe. Montana Caps Caps - General

Cap to be screwed, flanged, or welded. Caps to be of steel of cast iron of at least 3/16 in. thick. Temporary cap to be a watertight seal, watertight welded steel cap, or a threaded cap. Temporarily abandoned wells shall be grouted and sealed to comply with ARM 36.21.654 before the drill rig is removed from the site. Temporarily abandoned wells shall have an access port as per ARM 36.21.665.

After casing is permanently set, annular space to be filled to land surface w/ appropriate sealer. annular space between upper drill hole & well casing to be kept at least 1/2 full w/ appropriate sealer. North Carolina Access Ports & Tubes Access Ports & Tubes - General

Every water supply well shall be equipped with a usable access port or air line, except those with a multi-pipe deep well jet pump or adapter mounted on the well casing or wellhead, and wells with casing two inches or less in diameter where a suction pipe is connected to a suction lift pump. The access port shall be at least one half inch inside diameter opening so that the position of the water level can be determined at any time. The port shall be installed and maintained in such manner as to prevent entrance of water or foreign material.

North Carolina Abandonment Abandonment - General

Casing & screen materials to be removed prior to initiation of abandonment. Cement grout to fill wells in unconsolidated formations. Well shall be disinfected and sounded prior to sealing. In gravel-packed well where casing & screens have not been removed, neat cement to be injected into well filling from bottom to top. Wells in consolidated rock may be filled w/ sand, gravel, or drill cuttings. Top of sand, gravel, or cutting fill to be at least 10 ft. below top of consolidated rock. or 5 ft below bottom of casing to ensure complete filling of casing and extend up to land surface. For any well in which the depth of casing or the depth of the bedrock is not known or cannot be confirmed, the entire length of the well shall be filled with grout up to land surface. Well to be sealed w/ watertight cap or seal. Bored or hand dug wells in unconsolidated materials, shall be disinfected according to Rule .0111(b)(1)(A) through .0111(b)(1)(C). All plumbing or piping, and upper 3 ft of casing to be removed. All soil or other subsurface material down to top of remaining well casing to be removed, including all materials to a width of at least 12 inches outside of the casing. Well filled to top of remaining casing with grout, dry clay or material excavated during construction. Temporarily abandoned wells to be protected w/ casing and water-tight cap that cannot be removed .

Montana Well Head Completion Well Head Completion - General

Casing head or pitless unit to extend no < 18 in. above finished ground surface or pump house floor. Casing not to be cut off below ground except when well is being permanently abandoned. Casing to extend no < 18 in. above established 100 year floodplain level & to be capped & vented. Ground surface immediately around well shall be graded to drain water away from well.

Montana Testing Testing - General

Test for drawdown & yield. Bacteriological sample should be taken following disinfection and chlorine solution flushed from system.

Montana Seals Seals - General

The minimum sealing material thickness shall be three inches. A minimum thickness of 1.5 inches of sealing material shall be applied around the outside of the casing. When casing diameter is reduced, a minimum of four feet of overlap shall be required, except when a deleterious case may occur. All new wells shall be sealed to a minimum depth of 25 feet with appropriate sealing material with the exception of those wells addressed in (4) of this rule. (4) For wells drilled with a cable tool or other driven methods through unconsolidated formations, when the drilling and driving is a continuous operation, bentonite shall be fed continuously along the outside of the casing as the well is being driven. However, it is required that fresh, clean, pure bentonite be used. For wells drilled through formations that need special sealing techniques to protect aquifers, ARM 36.21.655 through 36.21.660 suggest alternative procedures that may be required and are intended as examples that can be modified to protect the aquifer.

Montana Screens Screens - General

Aperture entrance to allow for velocity of 0.1 ft/s or less. To be constructed of one type of corrosion-resistant material, choice of materials should be based on chemical analysis or prior knowledge of the water. Where appropriate, suitable neoprene packers or cement grout shall be fitted to the top of the well screen assembly.

Montana Pumps Pumps - General

No Standard Specified.

Montana Plumbness & Alignment Plumbness & Alignment - General

Completed well to be sufficiently plumb & straight. Well casing to be sealed into an oversize drill hole should be equipped with centering guides to ensure the proper centering of a casing. In all events, casings shall be centered in the sealed interval. Guides should be of steel, at least 1/4 inch in thickness, evenly spaced in groups of 3 or 4 in 20 foot intervals or less.

Montana Pitless Units Pitless Units - General

The use of plastic well casing in connection with a pitless adaptor is not acceptable.

North Carolina Licensing Licensing - General

A certified well contractor must be present at all times when well contractor activities are being conducted. A well contractor activity is defined as the construction, installation, repair, alteration, or abandonment of any well. (15A NCAC 27) (G.S. 87-98)

North Carolina Identification Identification - General

A well contractor identification plate and pump installer identification plate are required to be installed within 72 hrs of completion of drilling. Contractor Information Plate to be weatherproof, rustproof metal or other approved material and shall be stamped with information including well depth, casing depth, and I.D., screened intervals, packing interval, yield or specific capacity, static water level and date measured, date completed, construction permit number. Pump Installation Information Plate shall show well contractor and certification number of pump installer, and shall be permanently attached to the well casing, surface grout pad or enclosure floor. Shall include date pump installed, depth of pump intake and hp rating of pump.

North Carolina Grout Grout - General

Grout to be placed w/in 7 days after casing is set. No fly ash, other coal combustion byproducts, or other wastes may be used in any grout. With the exception of bentonite chips or pellets, the liquid and solid components of all grout mixtures shall be blended prior to emplacement below land surface. Grout to minimum depth of 20 ft from below land surface except wells in areas designated in Rule .0116 grout shall extend to depth of 2 ft above screen or, for open end wells, to bottom of casing, but never less than 10 ft. Areas designated in Rule .0117 grout shall extend to minimum of 35 ft below land surface. Grout shall be placed by pressure, pumping, or gravity flow. If grouting casing to depth greater than 20 ft below land surface, pumping or pressure method shall be used for portion below 20 ft, with the exception of bentonite chips and pellets, used in accordance with Part (f)(4)(C) of this Rule.

North Carolina Gravel/Sand-Packed Wells Gravel/Sand-Packed Wells - General

Packers shall be disinfected, and be placed around screen & casing by fluid circulation method. Packers to be quartz, granite, clean, of uniform size, & free of clay, silt, & fine particles.

North Carolina Development Development - General

Shall include removal of formation materials, mud, drilling fluids and additives such that the water contains no more than 5 milliliters per liter of settleable solids; and 10 NTUs of turbidity as suspended solids.

North Carolina Casing Thermoplastic

If extending into solid rock, then thermoplastic casing to be equipped w/ at least 3 ft. of steel casing. To be new. Casing and joints to meet or exceed ASTM F480-06b, except that the outside diameters shall not be restricted to those listed in ASTM F480-06b. The depth of installation for a given SDR or Schedule number shall not exceed that listed in Table 2 unless written documentation from the manufacturer states that the casing may safely be used at the depth at which it is to be installed is provided. Wall thickness less than SDR 21 or Schedule 40 shall not be used. If casing extends into consolidated rock, casing shall be equipped with coupling, or similar approved device, shall not be driven, may be pushed.

North Carolina Casing Steel

To be new, seamless or electric-resistance welded galvanized, or black steel pipe. Galvanizing to follow ASTM A120. Steel casing minimum wall thickness requires schedule 40 if nominal diameter is 3.5 inches or smaller, for larger nominal diameter wall thickness see Table 1. Threads & couplings for steel casing to meet ASTM A53/A53M-07, or A589/589M-06. Stainless steel casing, threads, and couplings shall conform to ASTM A530/A530M-04a, and casing shall have minimum wall thickness equivalent to standard schedule 10S. To be equipped w/ drive shoe if driven. Drive shoe not required where grout surrounds & extends entire casing length. Drive shoe to be made of forged, high carbon, tempered seamless steel & have a beveled, hardened cutting edge.

North Carolina Casing Casing - General

Casing depth determined by area in which well is located. See 15A NCAC 02C .0116 and .0117 for location information. Contaminated, saline, or non-potable water bearing zones shall be cased and grouted. Bottom of casing must extend to minimum depth of 35 ft for areas defined in Rule .0117 and 35 ft for areas defined in rule .0117. Wells constructed with separation distances less than those specified in Subparagraph (a)(2) of this Rule based on lot size or other fixed conditions as specified in Subparagraph (a)(3) shall be cased from land surface to a depth of at least 35 ft except in areas described in Rule .0116. Wells located in any other area shall be cased from land surface to depth of at least 20 ft. Casing in consolidated rock seated at least 5 ft. into rock. Casing to extend at least 1 ft. into top of water-bearing formation if water is from unconsolidated rock.

Wyoming Annular Space Annular Space - General

Must be at least 2 inches annular space extending not less than 20 ft below ground surface. Diameter of well bore must be 4 inches larger than casing, plus diameter of fill pipe if used.

Wyoming Casing Metal Pipe

Must be welded or joined w/threaded couplings. If welded, weld shall be made using welding rods of equal quality to the most noble metal, shall be at least as thick as the wall thickness of well casing, and shall be fully penetrating. Spot welding is prohibited. Only steel casing, equipped with proper drive shoe or drive point, can be used if the casing is to be installed by jacking or driving.

Wyoming Casing PVC Pipe

Must be watertight and compatible w/casing material. Where pitless adapter is installed, grout seal must extend from pitless unit to at least 20 ft below ground surface. Area around the pitless unit and surface string may be filled w/bentonite or clean earth to grade level.

Wyoming Filter Pack Filter Pack

Should not contain more than 2% by weight of thin, flat, or elongated pieces and should not contain organic impurities or contaminants of any kind. Type III Wells should be gravel (filter) packed opposite the perforated or screened zone(s) and no more than 5 ft above the zone(s). The interval above the gravel pack must be sealed.

Wyoming Grout Grout - General

Non-Slurry bentonite grouts must be in place before significant hydration occurs. Well cuttings are not allowed to be used as grout, filler, or aggregate material for well sealing. Shall meet applicable ASTM, API, NSF, 3-7AWWA, or other recognized industry standards.

Wyoming Grout Neat Cement Grout Slurry

Must be mixture of Portland Cement and not more than 6 gals clean water per bag (1 cubic ft or 94 lbs).

Wyoming Grout Sand Cement Grout Slurry

Must be mixture of Portland Cement, sand and water in proportion of not more than 1 part by weight of sand to 1 part of cement w/not more than 6 gals clean water per bag (1 cubic ft or 94 lbs)

Wisconsin Additional Requirements Additional Requirements - General

Materials having a lead content greater than 8% by weight, may not be installed in a well. Component parts of manufactured products containing lead shall not have a lead content of more than 5% of the total product weight. “Lead wool" or other products containing more than 8% lead may not be used as seals in the bottom of open-ended well casing pipes or as screens terminating in coarse formations.

Wisconsin Casing Drive Shoe

To be welded or threaded to bottom of pipe to be driven, except when upper enlarged drill hole extends >20 ft into bedrock and annular space is cement grouted before lower drill hole is constructed.

Wisconsin Casing Joints

Steel casing with welded joints shall have beveled ends and all joints shall be welded according to the welding requirements outlined in s. NR 812.18.

Wisconsin Construction Driven Point Wells

Drive pipe (not screen) shall extend to greater depth of 25 ft or 10 ft below statics water level. Protect against freezing when necessary with outer sleeve below frost depth, include water-tight sanitary seal between well and protective sleeve.

Wisconsin Construction Dug Wells - Cover

Shall be made of reinforced watertight concrete at least 5 inches thick and of a diameter large enough to overlap the curbing wall by at least 2 inches. A drip groove shall be provided within one inch of the outer edge of the underside of the cover. The cover shall be free from joints. A pump installation access sleeve comprising a section of steel well casing pipe conforming to s. NR 812.17 (2) shall be installed in the cover at the time of pouring the concrete to fabricate the cover and shall terminate at least 12 inches above the top of the cover. The top of the cover shall be sloped to drain away from the access sleeve. A manhole, if installed, shall be provided with a 4-inch high metal curb which shall be equipped with an overlapping metal cover, the sides of which extend downward at least 1-1/2 inches. A tight joint shall be provided between the top of the curbing and the cover using a nontoxic plastic sealing compound. The manhole cover shall be locked or bolted in place to prevent entrance of water and to be safe from vandalism and accidents.

Wisconsin Construction Dug Wells - Curbing

If approved, curbing to be concrete or steel, of adequate strength, watertight to depth of 2 ft below vertical zone of contamination, but not <25 ft below ground surface. Steel curbing to be min. 1/4 in. thick w/welded joints. Annular opening to be filled with clean clay slurry. Curbing wall to extend >12 in. above ground surface.

Wisconsin Construction Dug Wells

Highly susceptible to contamination, approval required for construction. Ground to be graded at least 6 inches above ground surface to direct water away from well. All pump piping, including the pump discharge or suction pipe, shall extend watertight through an access sleeve in the dug well cover.

Wisconsin Construction Flowing Wells

Flow outside of casing is to be prevented. If sandstone bedrock low capacity well, except for school and ww treatment plant wells, reference depth is 30 ft, and 40 ft for other types of bedrock. See NR 812.15 for approved methods for confined and unconfined aquifer.

Wisconsin Construction Construction - General

Consultation with the department is required when constructing or reconstructing wells or drill holes located on properties that are listed on the department's geographic information system registry of closed remediation sites, special well and drill hole construction methods shall be utilized. Consult w/department if proposed well is w/in 500 ft of a quarry or 250 ft of sinkhole or outcrop.

Wisconsin Construction Materials

Lead compounds used to lubricate and seal drill stem joints or any equipment entering a potable water well may not be used. Materials containing lead having a lead content greater than 0.025% by weighted average, may not be installed in a potable water well. “Lead wool" or other products containing more than 0.025% lead may not be used as seals in the bottom of an open-ended well casing pipes or as screens terminating in coarse formations.

Wisconsin Construction Springs

The unprotected nature of springs subjects them to wide fluctuations in water quality. The department discourages their use as a source of potable water. Each spring considered for use as a source of potable water shall be evaluated by the department prior to use as a potable source. Development of a spring as a source of potable water will be approved only after a department evaluation and approval. The placement or driving of a casing pipe into an undeveloped spring in a location easily accessible to the public regardless of the intended use of the spring water is prohibited.
