Wyoming Screens Screens - General

Type II and III wells shall be constructed with well screen (as defined in Chapter 2) commercially manufactured for the purpose of well construction and sized appropriately for the grain size of the aquifer materials to be developed by the well.

Wyoming Plumbing Connection Plumbing Connection - General

All plumbing or water supply distribution from the well to the point of entry hookup shall be installed and maintained in accordance with existing plumbing codes.

Wyoming Pitless Units Pitless Units - General

Area around casing to be backfilled w/ clean earth, bentonite slurry, or cement grout. Concrete or cement grout to extend from min of 10 ft. below surface to below base of pitless adapter. To protect water system from freezing.

Wyoming Meters Meters - General

Flow meters w/instantaneous flow rate and totalizing capability shall be installed on discharge lines of all water wells or well systems whenever the State Engineer permit conditions require a flow meter and subsequent reporting of volumetric use.

Wyoming Electrical Connection Electrical Connection - General

All electrical installations shall be performed and maintained in accordance with existing electrical codes. A properly licensed electrician must perform all electric wiring which impacts the operation of the pump or pumping system. This includes wiring from the pump to the control boxes to the main power supply such as the breaker box in a house. Licensed Water Well Pump Installation Contractors are advised that additional licensing requirements may be required by the Wyoming State Fire Marshal’s Office. The electric wire should be adequately attached to the drop pipe for support and be installed in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.

Wyoming Disinfection Disinfection - General

Wells to be disinfected following construction, repair, or work done on pump according to Dept. of Health & Social Services. Ensure chlorine residual of 100 mg/l is in the entire volume of water in the casing and all parts of the plumbing system (pump, drop-pipe, wiring, pitless assembly, etc.) for a minimum contact period of not less than two (2) hours (overnight is preferable) before flushing and ridding the chlorine solution from the well.

Wyoming Development Development - General

Wells to be overpumped or surged to remove sediment from water.

Wyoming Casing Unconsolidated Formations

Casing to extend to water table or below.

Wyoming Casing Casing - General

To extend at least 10 ft. below ground. Must meet applicable ASTM, API, NSF, and/or AWWA standards. Well design and conditions will dictate casing materials. All casing types must achieve watertight connections according to directions from the manufacturer. Rivets or screws used in casing joints shall not penetrate the inside of the casing.

Wyoming Caps Caps - General

Shall be capped or sealed to prevent contamination. Flowing wells are to be capped (valved) to stop the flow of water when well not in use.

Wyoming Access Ports & Tubes Access Ports & Tubes - General

All wells shall be equipped w/min of 1/2 inch diameter access port, except flowing wells.

Wyoming Abandonment Abandonment - General

Cased well to have cement or concrete plug placed opposite to all perforations or screens. Concrete or cement plug to extend to at least 10 ft. above cavernous zone & 10 ft. below cavernous zone or well bottom. Creviced rock to be filled w/ concrete or cement grout, or alternate layers of cement grout & gravel or stone aggregate. Gravel packed well to be pressure grouted entire perforated or screened section of casing. Remainder of well to be filled w/ grout, cement or concrete grout, drilling mud, or bentonite. Artesian well to have cement or concrete plug seal the artesian aquifer and extend to at least 10 ft. above artesian zone and 10 ft. below artesian zone or well bottom. If necessary, to stop surface flow or subsurface leakage, pressure grout the entire zone. Remainder of well to be filled w/grout, cement or concrete grout, drilling mud, or bentonite. Temporarily abandoned wells to be sealed w/ watertight cap or seal. Uncased well to be filled w/ grout, cement or concrete grout, drilling mud, or bentonite. Well in consolidated formation to be filled w/ grout, cement or concrete grout, drilling mud, or bentonite.

West Virginia Well Pits or Vaults Well Pits Or Vaults - General

Installation in these areas prohibited.

West Virginia Well Head Completion Well Head Completion - General

Casing to terminate min of 12 in. above ground surface.

West Virginia Vents Vents - General

Vents shall be part of the well cap or may be attached to the well cap. They shall be turned down and screened to prevent entry of vermin. Toxic or flammable gasses shall be vented from a well to the outside above roof level or a point where they shall not produce a hazard. To be terminated at least 6 in. above floor or 12 in. above ground level.

West Virginia Screens Screens - General

Plastic screens to shall comply with ANSI/NSF Standard 61. Other than commercially manufactured screens can be constructed by created slots in approved casing material. Size of openings based on sieve analysis of formation or gravel pack, sufficient length and diameter to provide adequate specific capacity and low aperture entrance velocity.

West Virginia Pumps Pumps - General

Pumping capacity shall be consistent w/intended use and yield characteristics of well. Submersible pumps shall have min. of 2 check valves. Jet pumps to have a check valve on discharge side of pressure tank and all clamps shall be stainless steel. Pump controls for water wells shall be installed m accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and shall include a pressure relief valve. All components of pumping system shall be in compliance w/NST Standard 61.

West Virginia Plumbing Connection Plumbing Connection - General

All conduits, valves, piping, other plumbing fixtures and fittings should be NSF approved and suitable for potable water. Water service pipe from well to point of entrance to building shall comply w/applicable standards and carry the NSF Potable Water seal. Water service piping shall be installed below the anticipated frost line, with a minimum depth of two (2) feet.

West Virginia Pitless Units Pitless Units - General

Must be approved by WSC, must form unbroken extension of casing from point of discharge to point above ground level, must be threaded or welded to cutoff casing and be watertight. Compression flange gasket not allowed.

West Virginia Permitting Permitting - General

Permit to drill, construct, alter, or abandon well needed prior to action.

West Virginia Packers Packers - General

Shall be made of materials to not impart taste, odor, toxic, substance, or bacterial contamination. Lead packers shall not be used.

West Virginia Abandonment Maintenance & Repair - General

All materials used in replacement, alteration or repair of any water well shall meet or exceed the requirements for new installation. Repairs or retrofits or both to wells w/top of casing terminating below ground shall extend the casing above land surface with like material.

West Virginia Location Location - General

Wells to be located as far as possible from potential contaminants, and to be located to be accessible for cleaning, treatment, repair, testing, abandonment, and other maintenance. If located in areas of seasonable flooding or surface water contamination shall be constructed so as to prevent this water from entering the well.

West Virginia Identification Identification - General

Each well drilling contractor shall securely attach a metal tag or engraved well cap to the wellhead containing: the contractor's name, address and permit number, the depth of the well and the date of construction or alteration.

West Virginia Grout Grout - General

Immediately before casing is placed in consolidated formations, 1 bag of cement to be mixed w/ 5-7 gal of water & placed. Shall be neat cement, bentonite w/cement mix, or bentonite. Other materials require Commissioner approval. No drilling muds shall be used for grouting.

West Virginia Electrical Connection Electrical Connection - General

Shall meet and be installed in accordance with any national, state, or local codes and ordinances. All splices in electrical wiring shall be watertight. Electrical wiring from the wellhead to the house shall be in a conduit or be an approved underground cable.

West Virginia Development Development - General

Develop to remove native silts & clays, drilling mud, or finer fraction of gravel pack.

West Virginia Casing Casing - General

Each section of casing to display NSF seal and shall comply with ANSI/NSF Standard 61.

West Virginia Caps Caps - General

WSC approved vector proof cap and shall provide for ventilation.

West Virginia Abandonment Abandonment - General

Work must be performed by WV certified water well driller. All wells to be completely filled w/bentonite or cement grout. Wells in unconsolidated formations to be sealed w/bentonite or bentonite-cement mix from top to bottom. If well penetrates limestone or other creviced formation, stone, pea gravel, or other bridging agents may be used. Hand dug or bucket wells exceeding 24 inches in diameter to be abandoned using same method as wells in unconsolidated material. Screens, casings, liner pipes, pumps, wiring, valves, to be pulled when possible.

Wisconsin Well Pits or Vaults Well Pits Or Vaults - General

Must meet approval.

Wisconsin Well Head Completion Well Head Completion - General

Casing to terminate at least 12 in. above surface, pumphouse building or floor, or above concrete or asphalt platform. Wells in floodplains to terminate at least 2 ft. above regional flood level. If the thermoplastic well casing pipe extends above the frost line, the upper terminus of the well shall be contained in a well house or in a capped oversized steel well casing pipe. The pipe shall extend from the top of the thermoplastic well casing pipe to a depth below the frost level.

Wisconsin Vents Vents - General

Screened downward facing vent to be provided for well cap or seal. Vent pipe toe provide for at least 0.25 square inches of open area.

Wisconsin Seals Seals - General

Sanitary well seal to have 1-piece top plate. Stud bolts preferred. Vermin-proof seal to be installed in or on top of casing.

Wisconsin Screens Screens - General

A continuous-slot screen composed of stainless steel, everdur, monel, brass or approved polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Noncontinuous-slot screens may be used if approved. Screen selection for driven-point wells is optional, except that screens having any lead content may not be used. For nonpotable low capacity wells and dewatering wells, screens are not required. May be permanently welded or threaded. Riser may be installed to extend upward from top of screen. Riser pipe material may be thermoplastic or metal, but not metal w/lead content >8%.

Wisconsin Pumps Pumps - General

Pump installers to have valid Wisconsin license. The pump intake shall be set at least 5 feet above the bottom of the well casing pipe and shall be set such that the pump does not break suction under normal operating conditions.

Wisconsin Plumbness & Alignment Plumbness & Alignment - General

Deviation from center line not to exceed 75% of well diameter for wells > 10 in. in diameter. Well to allow free passage of pump to be installed to pump depth plus 25% of that depth.

Wisconsin Pitless Units Pitless Units - General

I.D. to be no < I.D. of casing. Lead-based solder not to be used. Plastic pipe not to be used for buried pipe in soils contaminated w/ volatile organic chemicals. Subsurface connection to be made of weld-on, clamp-on, or bolt-on adapter or unit. To be used for making subsurface connections to wells. Type M copper pipe not to be used.
