Nebraska Well Pits or Vaults Well Pits Or Vaults - General

Not allowed.

North Dakota Well Pits or Vaults Well Pits or Vaults - General

The well casing shall not extend through nor shall the top of the well casing or any other well opening terminate in the basement of any building or in a pit, room, or other space which is below ground surface.

California Well Pits or Vaults Well Pits Or Vaults - General

Highly discouraged, use pitless adapters where appropriate. Upon approval of enforcing agency, shall extend from top of annular seal to at least ground surface, where annular surface seal can be no more than 4 ft below ground surface. Must extend from top of annular seal to at least ground surface, must be watertight and structurally sound, and strong enough to support vehicular traffic where it occurs. Lid must allow venting of gases and fitted with security device to limit access. Outside of lid must be clearly and permanently labeled "WATER WELL". Top of vault must be graded so drainage is away from vault. Acceptable sealing methods described in Section 10 Subsection B Page 23 of Bulletin 74-90.

Colorado Well Pits or Vaults Well Pits Or Vaults - General

New installations not permitted without variance. Existing vaults must be structurally sound, watertight, and casing must extend at least 1 ft above vault floor, and must include screened drain.

Connecticut Well Pits or Vaults Well Pits Or Vaults - General

Avoided whenever practical, if used shall be large enough to permit access, be watertight or suitably drained to insure dryness. Every conduit or similar connection shall be watertight. If constructed in impervious soil, no porous material shall be used as a base under pit floor. If fill required, it shall be clean, impervious earth, well tamped.

Delaware Well Pits or Vaults Well Pits Or Vaults - General

Well pits, pump pits and buried well seals are prohibited. Upon approval by the Department, potable wells may be terminated below finished ground surface if above grade completion is not feasible. The engineered design of the enclosure must be included with the application or submitted prior to modification of an existing well.

Florida Well Pits or Vaults Well Pits Or Vaults - General

Maine Well Pits or Vaults Well Pits Or Vaults - General

Must be water tight.

New Mexico Well Pits or Vaults Well Pits or Vaults - General

Not recommended due to confined space issues. If a well is completed within a subsurface vault, the casing shall extend a minimum of 18 inches above the floor of the subsurface vault, and be appropriately sealed against entry of foreign materials and fluids.

Maryland Well Pits or Vaults Well Pits or Vaults - General

Not allowed.

Illinois Well Pits or Vaults Well Pits or Vaults - General

New well pits not allowed. Existing pits accepted if structurally sound and watertight, if casing extends at least 12 in. above the pit or basement floor and have a well seal to prevent contaminants from entering the well, and has watertight manhole and cover to prevent contaminants from entering well. No existing well pit shall be modified to comply with subsection (b)(2) above. Existing pits which are not in compliance with subsection (b)(2) shall be eliminated. The floor or one wall of the pit shall be broken or removed and the pit filled with compacted earth.

Kansas Abandonment Wells From Confined & Unconfined Aquifers

10 ft. grout plug to be placed opposite the impervious formation or confining layer w/ grout tremie pipe. Entire column to be filled w/ grout. Grout plug of at least 10 ft. to be placed from at least 13 ft. below surface to top of cut off casing. If there is an open bore hole below casing, top 20 ft. of casing to be removed or perforated. Prevent bridging by placing clays, silts, sand, & gravel between plugs. From ground level to 3 ft. below ground level, well shall be backfilled with clean, compacted soil and sloped to direct runoff away from well.

Rhode Island Construction Wells In Unconsolidated Materials

Jetted or washed wells not to be terminated in unconsolidated materials unless water is free of fines. To be equipped w/ screen, except for wells w/ very coarse gravel largely free of fines.

Ohio Location Wells or Boreholes/Unknown or Unregulated Construction

50 ft., includes boreholes and horizontal excavation for geothermal use.

Texas Annular Seal Wells Producing Injurious Waters

Annular space shall be pressure grouted w/cement or bentonite grout to land surface. Bentonite grout may not be used if water zone contains chloride water above 1,500 ppm or hydrocarbons are present.

Texas Casing Wells Producing Injurious Waters

Wells completed to produce injurious water shall be cased to prevent the mixing of water or constituent zones.

Texas Well Head Completion Wells Producing Injurious Waters

Wells producing injurious water shall be completed in such a manner that will not allow injurious fluids to flow onto the land surface. Upon encountering water injurious to vegetation, land or other water, driller shall comply with notification requirements of §1901.254 and §1902.252 of the Code notify well owner and ensure water is sealed off and confined to zone of origin; and as quickly as possible, plug, repair or properly complete the well pursuant to the standards adopted by the commission in order to avoid injury or pollution. If the well is not plugged or made into a monitoring well, driller shall 1) seal off and confine injurious water to zone of origin, 2) if injurious water zone overlies freshwater zone, driller shall case the well from the production zone back to land surface, 3) annular space to be pressure grouted with positive displacement technique or tremie pressure filled provided annular space is 3 inches larger than casing w/cement or bentonite grout from production zone to land surface. Bentonite grout may not be used if water zone contains chlorides above 1,500 ppm (mg/L) or if hydrocarbons are present.

Indiana Yield Yield - General

Each well shall be tested for yield, be test pumped at capacity at least equal to pumping rate desire during normal use. Shall be developed and tested at capacity for minimum of 1 hr, yield and drawdown shall be recorded. Pumping equipment shall be installed at a depth to allow for drawdown caused by pumping equipment and seasonal water level fluctuations.

Connecticut Yield Yield - General

Must be capable of yielding qty required by user. 5 gal/min with available storage of 75 gals or water depth of 100 ft, 3 1/2 gal/min with 150 gals available storage or water depth of 150 ft, 3 gal/min with 225 gals available storage or water depth of 200 ft, 1 gal/min with 400 gals available storage or water depth of 375 ft, or 1/2 gal/min with 600 gals available storage or water depth of 450 ft. Storage may include tanks.
